Kyle Larson is not enjoying a stellar season by the 2021 standards but he is also closing in on an incredible record.

Larson has been dominant in the 2021 Cup Series season with six wins, one of them in the playoffs and 16 top five finishes. Not only that he has also led 2000 laps in the process. Now he just needs to lead 321 laps to break the record that has been standing for 20 years now.

Given the form he is in this season, and with 1,710 laps still to go before the season ends, there is every possible reason to believe that the No. 5 Hendrick Motorsports driver will break this record this season.

The record is currently held by ex Hendrick Motorsports driver Jeff Gordon with 2320 laps led in the season.

This season, Larson has broken his personal record of 1352 laps, which he set in 2017. Next, Larson has Kyle Busch’s record of 2023 laps in sight.  But the main focus for Larson would be the next playoffs race at Talladega Superspeedway.
