Lance Stroll has been slapped with a three-place Formula 1 grid-drop for the Mexican Grand Prix after his accident with Fernando Alonso in the United States.

On Lap 22 after a Safety Car restart, Stroll jinked to the left to defend from Alonso, but did so too late and the Alpine rammed the Aston Martin - briefly getting airborne.

While Alonso carried on after a pitstop for repairs, Stroll retired on the spot, with the rear of the car being destroyed.

He felt he had left Alonso "plenty of room" but the stewards investigated the matter after the race - where Alonso finished seventh.

In their decision, the stewards found Stroll "predominantly to blame" for causing the collision and penalised him three-places on the grid for next weekend's race in Mexico.

Having also reviewed video evidence along with testimony from both drivers, Stroll was also hit with two penalty points onto his Super Licence.

The Canadian now has five for the 12 month period - with 12 points leading to a race ban.
