Former F1 driver Ralf Schumacher thinks Haas F1 Team Principal Gunther Steiner should criticise their drivers less in the media.

Speaking after Antonio Giovinazzi's crash during US GP Friday practice Steiner was not impressed with the outing, saying that his shunt after three laps was "not fantastic I would say at least."

Mick Schumacher has also come under more scrutiny recently over whether he will retain his seat for 2023. The Haas driver was attempting to get out of the first part of qualifying for the United States Grand Prix, when he spun on his timed lap at Turn 1.

This meant he only managed a time initially good enough for 19th on the grid, before a grid penalty for Zhou bumps him up a place.

Schumacher: "F1 isn't some Netflix show"

Ralf Schumacher, Mick's uncle, thinks the criticism that Steiner laments towards drivers is too much given the performances they are putting in that has enabled them to jump up to eight in the constructors this season.

"He calls for consistency with the team, but what does he mean by that?" he said on Sky Sports.

"Maybe he should listen back to his own interviews and maybe he will notice something himself. I think the whole team is performing well, with the exception of the team boss and the team owner.

"The respect between the engineers and the drivers, but also between the drivers themselves is there."

Schumacher believes Haas should stick with their current driver lineup for 2023, given their experience and how it will help the team to progress further up the grid.

He added: "In my view, both drivers are doing a good job and Haas would be wise to keep both drivers for 2023.

"Maybe they should look at themselves with the same critical eye that they look at the drivers, make sure that the strategies are right and that the car stays intact.

"Because don't forget that a lot has gone wrong with that team too."

"If you manage to get all that in order, the interviews will also become easier. This is Formula 1, not some Netflix show."
