One race down and things are already starting to heat up. Many fans are hoping that the nail-biting battle we saw Charles Leclerc and Max Verstappen continues this weekend in Saudi Arabia.
That possibility looks even more likely as off the back of Ferrari’s first 1-2 finish since Singapore 2019, Leclerc topped all three Free Practice sessions with his Red Bull rival narrowly behind.
Both are clearly enjoying the opportunity to battle one another, something which Charles doesn’t believe will change anytime soon, claiming they’ll continue to go all-out even if Lewis Hamilton becomes a threat.
“It’s quite clear what we are allowed to do in a race battling with each other now,” he said. “We’ll be right at the limit of the rules, as has always been the case.
“That’s the way I enjoy racing when it’s hard but fair and when the limits are very clear. Whether there’s Lewis at the back or not, I will be racing the same way.”
The stage has been set for another exhilarating season. The pair grew up racing each other in karting, before finding themselves banging wheels a few times in recent years, notoriously at the Austrian GP in 2019.
If Max vs Lewis was the battle of the generations, then Max vs Charles is set to be the battle for F1’s future.
