It seemed to be going Pierre Gasly’s way today. He was confirmed to be staying at AlphaTauri in 2023 by his boss this morning and finished P2 in FP3, but Pierre surprised us all when he was knocked out in the first part of qualifying in Montreal.

Speaking to F1 after the disappointing result, where he finished P16 before penalties were applied, he stated his car had a failure after a pitstop.

“Start of the session was going okay until after we boxed,” he began.

“Changed the tyre and after that our front left brake completely switched off. I could not brake at all.”

The error meant Gasly was “too slow” to make it into Q2, which was “extremely frustrating because there was clearly something to do today”.

we’ve had better days.

He’ll hope to make up places during tomorrow’s Canadian GP, especially as his teammate Yuki Tsunoda starts at the back of the field too, after taking engine penalties.

Where do you think Pierre can finish tomorrow? Let us know.
