The 1997 F1 world champion Jacques Villeneuve might be competing in the Daytona 500 for the upcoming season.

The EuroNASCAR driver recently tested a Cup Series car at the Charlotte Motor Speedway Roval for his new team, Team Hezeberg for the No. 27 car. The team plans to run Daytona 500 this season along with other races in the Cup Series in partnership with Reaume Brothers Racing.

The team will have two drivers, Villeneuve and the 2019 champion of the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series Loris Hezemans. Hezemans is set to compete in the road courses, which leaves Villeneuve to compete for the ovals.

Villeneuve is not new to NASCAR either. He won his first NASCAR Whelen Euro Series race win at Autodromo di Vallelunga in Italy last October. Also, he has competed in the Cup Series on a number of occasions. More precisely, he has participated in the Cup race in 2007, 2008, 2010, and 2013. His Cup debut was at the Talladega Superspeedway where he finished in 21st place, which is his highest finish in the series till date.

He tried his luck in the Daytona Series in 2008 but he failed to qualify for the event. Let’s see if he might be lucky this time around.
