The first NASCAR car to reach an average of 200.447 mph during a private test is up for sale.

While these days there are a lot of street ars that can reach 200mph. However, 50 years ago, that was not the case. In March 1970, Buddy Baker drove the Dodge Daytona in a private test at Talladega Superspeedway and reached an average of 200.447 mph.

It was not the only record broken by that car. It also set the qualifying record at the track the prior September with a speed of 199.446 mph. Charlie Glotzbach drove the car that time.

Initially, the Dodge Daytona was not a race car but a Dodge 500 press car. It was stolen and then after it was recovered, it was turned into a race car. The drivers to rode the car during that time were Bobby Allison, Dan Gurney, Bobby Isaac and James Hylton.

It is now owned by NASCAR legend Ray Evernham, who has decided to put the car for auction this month at the Mecum Indy event. It has a pre-auction estimate of $350,000 to $450,000.
