“NASCAR tried lied to us” – Denny Hamlin called out NASCAR for covering up a wrong call
Fox Sports reporter Bob Pockrass spoke with Bubba Crew Chief Bootie Baker about what went wrong at Charlotte.
NASCAR said we didn’t meet the minimum (speed) in three laps, but i think we had time on the clock. The first lap we just laid back on the initial restart to make sure we didn’t get caught up in anything…I’m not sure without looking at it. By the letter of the rule, I guess that’s what happened.
Was it a miscalculation?
Either way it was a mistake on our part, I would say that.

Disappointed Wallace fans were left complaining about the rule. But even if they don’t like the rule, Wallace’s team knew what they had to do. They just didn’t execute, which is why they had a disappointing finish.
This is the rule that ended Bubba Wallace day. Even if you have time on the 6-minute clock, if you don’t make minimum speed in three green-flag laps, race is over under the damaged vehicle policy. pic.twitter.com/Jl2F5TLeMQ
