It was a return to the podium for Lewis Hamilton over the weekend, with the seven-time champ having been missing from the top three since the first race of the season. It’s no secret that his Mercedes has been a pain to drive, with it being called a “diva” and a “shitbox” by team boss Toto Wolff.
To resolve the car’s issues, the team has been trying plenty of new and experimental parts on the car, especially on Hamilton’s side of the garage.
When asked about his thoughts on being the team’s guinea pig, Lewis joked, stating that “maybe in the second half of the season, George [Russell] can do the experiments”.
“We’re just trying to work… we’re just trying to progress as a team,” he continued.
“I think moving forward, I think we’ll be a little bit more cautious on doing too many experiments as it really does hinder you through the weekend, especially if you only have FP1 and FP2 in the dry and don’t get FP3, for example.
What a result for @MercedesAMGF1!! 🥳

“There’s lots of learnings from this weekend and improvements that we can make moving forwards. But you know, really great pace today.”
We’re sure Hamilton will be hoping to replicate another podium in front of his home crowd at Silverstone next week.
